Jim Triplett - Head Coach / Senior Coach email
Jim has been the Cabrillo Thresher Head Coach for 34 years now,
and serves daily as the Senior Coach. He brings great
experience and skill to our team and oversees all of the assistant
coaches for the Threshers. He was the winner of Pacific
Swimming’s George Haines Senior Coach of the Year in
1995. He has also coached the Aptos High Swim Team for the
past 28 years, was California State Coach of the Year in 1996, CCS
Honor Coach of the Year in 1997, and was inducted into the Aptos
Highs Hall of Fame as a swim coach in 2002. We are lucky to
have such a skilled and dedicated coach leading our team.

Barbara has been coaching with the Threshers since 2004,
starting as a pre-comp swim coach, then coaching
Beginners/pre-Juniors for two years and is now our Junior Coach at
Simpkins. She started her swimming career with Santa Cruz
Aquatics Team in 1992 when she was 7 years old and swam
competitively for 8 years with SCAT (now SCCA). She moved to the
Cabrillo Threshers in 2000 when she was 15 and swam with Jim
Triplett for 3 years when a knee injury ended her club team
swimming career. She took 2 years off and was able to swim on the
Cabrillo College swim team for the 2005 and 2006 seasons, setting a
school record in the 50 butterfly. She now swims recreationally
whenever she can. Barbara also recently graduated from Cabrillo
College with an AS degree in Culinary Arts and now also works for a
local bakery.
|  | Tanner Henning - Aptos Beginner - Junior Coach email
This is Tanner's second year coaching with the Threshers, and he
coaches the Beginners/Pre-Juniors and Juniors at the Aptos High
Pool. He started swimming with Cabrillo in 1992 and continued
to swim with the team through college. After a successful swimming
and water polo career at Aptos High, Tanner continued to
participate in both sports at Cabrillo College. At
Cabrillo, he set a school record in the 1650 freestyle, and
qualified for the State Meet both years. After 2 years at Cabrillo,
Tanner transferred to Cal Poly: San Luis Obispo where
he swam distance freestyle and backstroke for the Mustangs.
Recently he graduated with a degree in Recreation, Parks, and
Tourism Administration. In his spare time Tanner likes to watch all
sports, he roots for the Raiders, A’s, and
Warriors. He also likes to play poker and hang out with his dogs
Marlee and Kona.
|  | Tommy Zaferes - Pre-Senior Coach email
Tommy Zaferes is starting his second season as a full time
coach with the Threshers. He coached for Aptos High in
’07 and ’08, and has been a substitute
for the Threshers as well. For the past 8 years Tommy has been
swimming under the exceptional coaching of Jim Triplett, learning
not only about swimming but about coaching. He recently finished
his upper level swimming career at the Olympic Trials in July of
’08 thus completing 16 years of competitive swimming. He
holds 12 of the 14 Cabrillo College school records (one of which is
a National Community College Record) and has placed as high as
3rd in National level competition (racing next to
Olympians such as Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Jason Lezak,
Aaron Peirsol, Brendan Hansen, and many others). In 2006
Tommy’s 200m butterfly was ranked 36th in the
world, 4th in the USA, and he was the fastest 19 yr old in the
nation. Tommy hopes to transfer all his experiences to encourage
young athletes and help them achieve their goals. In his free time
Tommy works at Safeway, trains for triathlons, skateboards, surfs,
plays guitar, and eats lots of food.

This is Allie’s first year
of coaching for the Threshers. She was an assistant coach for
the Cabrillo College swim team, coached a season at Soquel High and
also taught swimming classes at Cabrillo College for eight years
. Allie started swimming competitively at the age of eight on
this very swim team. She won many local and regional
championships and placed at many National championships. She
attended Aptos high school where she was undefeated all four years
in the league and was also a two-time All-American in the 100 yard
backstroke. She is now a part of the Athletic Hall of Fame at Aptos
High School. Allie was a walk on swimmer at Arizona State
University her freshman year, but shoulder injuries kept her out of
the pool her second year. She returned to the area and swam
for the Cabrillo Seahawks where she was a six-time Community
College All-American, and state champion in the 100 backstroke in
1999. She also has competed at the Masters swimmi ng level
and placed 3rd in both the 50 and 100 meter backstroke at the World
Masters Championships in 2006. Allie has an A.S. degree in
Early Childhood Education and has worked in education for the last
7 years. She is currently working in a special education
class. She is really excited to be a part of this team and to
teach something that she loves and that has been such a huge part
of her life.
