Jim has been the Cabrillo Thresher Head Coach for 34 years now, and serves daily as the Senior Coach.  He brings great experience and skill to our team and oversees all of the assistant coaches for the Threshers.  He was the winner of Pacific Swimming’s George Haines Senior Coach of the Year in 1995.  He has also coached the Aptos High Swim Team for the past 28 years, was California State Coach of the Year in 1996, CCS Honor Coach of the Year in 1997, and was inducted into the Aptos Highs Hall of Fame as a swim coach in 2002.  We are lucky to have such a skilled and dedicated coach leading our team.

Barbara Daddario - Simpkins Junior Coach  email

Barbara has been coaching with the Threshers since 2004, starting as a pre-comp swim coach, then coaching Beginners/pre-Juniors for two years and is now our Junior Coach at Simpkins.  She started her swimming career with Santa Cruz Aquatics Team in 1992 when she was 7 years old and swam competitively for 8 years with SCAT (now SCCA). She moved to the Cabrillo Threshers in 2000 when she was 15 and swam with Jim Triplett for 3 years when a knee injury ended her club team swimming career. She took 2 years off and was able to swim on the Cabrillo College swim team for the 2005 and 2006 seasons, setting a school record in the 50 butterfly. She now swims recreationally whenever she can. Barbara also recently graduated from Cabrillo College with an AS degree in Culinary Arts and now also works for a local bakery.

Tanner Henning - Aptos Beginner - Junior Coach  email

This is Tanner's second year coaching with the Threshers, and he coaches the Beginners/Pre-Juniors and Juniors at the Aptos High Pool.  He started swimming with Cabrillo in 1992 and continued to swim with the team through college. After a successful swimming and water polo career at Aptos High, Tanner continued to participate in both sports at Cabrillo College. At Cabrillo, he set a school record in the 1650 freestyle, and qualified for the State Meet both years. After 2 years at Cabrillo, Tanner transferred to Cal Poly: San Luis Obispo where he swam distance freestyle and backstroke for the Mustangs. Recently he graduated with a degree in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Administration. In his spare time Tanner likes to watch all sports, he roots for the Raiders, A’s, and Warriors. He also likes to play poker and hang out with his dogs Marlee and Kona.

Tommy Zaferes - Pre-Senior Coach  email

Tommy Zaferes is starting his second season as a full time coach with the Threshers. He coached for Aptos High in ’07 and ’08, and has been a substitute for the Threshers as well. For the past 8 years Tommy has been swimming under the exceptional coaching of Jim Triplett, learning not only about swimming but about coaching. He recently finished his upper level swimming career at the Olympic Trials in July of ’08 thus completing 16 years of competitive swimming. He holds 12 of the 14 Cabrillo College school records (one of which is a National Community College Record) and has placed as high as 3rd in National level competition (racing next to Olympians such as Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Jason Lezak, Aaron Peirsol, Brendan Hansen, and many others). In 2006 Tommy’s 200m butterfly was ranked 36th in the world, 4th in the USA, and he was the fastest 19 yr old in the nation. Tommy hopes to transfer all his experiences to encourage young athletes and help them achieve their goals. In his free time Tommy works at Safeway, trains for triathlons, skateboards, surfs, plays guitar, and eats lots of food.

» Allison Lovell - Simpkins Beginner - Pre Jr Coach  email
This is Allie’s first year of coaching for the Threshers.  She was an assistant coach for the Cabrillo College swim team, coached a season at Soquel High and also taught swimming classes at Cabrillo College for eight years .  Allie started swimming competitively at the age of eight on this very swim team.  She won many local and regional championships and placed at many National championships.  She attended Aptos high school where she was undefeated all four years in the league and was also a two-time All-American in the 100 yard backstroke. She is now a part of the Athletic Hall of Fame at Aptos High School.  Allie was a walk on swimmer at Arizona State University her freshman year, but shoulder injuries kept her out of the pool her second year.  She returned to the area and swam for the Cabrillo Seahawks  where she was a six-time Community College All-American, and state champion in the 100 backstroke in 1999.  She also has competed at the Masters swimmi ng level and placed 3rd in both the 50 and 100 meter backstroke at the World Masters Championships in 2006.  Allie has an A.S. degree in Early Childhood Education and has worked in education for the last 7 years.  She is currently working in a special education class.  She is really excited to be a part of this team and to teach something that she loves and that has been such a huge part of her life.
